Who is a Skilled Swordsman?
A Skilled Swordsman is someone who, through diligent study and application of the word of God, is able to present himself/herself to God as approved. This is achieved by carefully studying and applying the Bible – the source of all truth.
But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth.
James 1:22 Amplified
The Skilled Swordsman is a call to discipleship, a call to deeper and meaningful study and application of the word of God. It is inspired by 2 Timothy 2:15 (AMP). To obtain the fruit of righteousness referenced in Philippians 1:11, one must analyze, dissect, examine, and prove the word of God.
Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15 Amplified
To become skilled at anything, it requires diligence, patience, commitment, devotion and most importantly grace from God. To be skilled is defined as having or showing knowledge, ability or training to perform a certain activity or task well. Taken in the context of scripture, one is skilled when they can display knowledge, ability, and be able to execute the commands of the word of God.

Ephesians 6:17 Amplified
A swordsman refers to a man who fights with a sword (typically with his level of skill specified). The bible in Ephesians 6:17 (NIV) references the “sword of the Spirit [Holy], which is the word of God.”
Putting these concepts together we have a definition of a Skilled Swordsman of God as someone who studies the word to mastery, applying its commands, seeking to present himself to God as approved, while engaging with the word and others appropriately, regardless of situation or occasion.
